Laboratory Technician

Level 3

This new apprenticeship standard has been designed by employers, it can lead successful apprentices into a variety of laboratory technician careers and progression into professional qualifications.

OVERVIEW

A laboratory technician may carry out both routine and one-off laboratory testing and perform a variety of technical support functions across the organisation. In any context working safety and ethically is paramount in Analytical science services, Pharmaceutical companies, Nuclear companies and more. Take your staff performance to the next level with this apprenticeship standard.

LEVEL AND DURATION

This apprenticeship is taught at Level 3, over 18 - 24 months.

  • NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Laboratory and Associated
    Technical Activities

  • BTEC Diploma in Applied Science

  • Functional Skills in IT

MODULES OF STUDY

  • Prepare for laboratory tasks using the appropriate scientific methods and techniques

  • Produce reliable, accurate data and keep accurate records

  • Develop and apply theoretical knowledge of relevant
    science technology required for the role

  • Recognise problems and apply appropriate scientific
    methods to identify causes and achieve solutions

  • Understand and apply statistical techniques for data
    presentation
